Welcome To Horse Butte Ranch.
Horse Butte Ranch is family owned and operated. We raise American Quarter horses and have a commercial black Angus cattle herd. Our ranch south of Two Dot, Montana runs from 4500’ to 6200’ in elevation. We foal our mares on pasture starting in May and they are also pasture bred. The foals run out in big country until weaning.
The horse program started here in 1987 with mares purchased from Paul and Roger Voss, Dennis’ family in Nebraska. One of those foundation mares, Kory Happy Bell produced the stallion Bull Rope Hancock, leased back to Roger Voss, as well as many strong, hardworking ranch geldings.
Our first stallion was an old Hancock bred stud, Quarters Peso. Then in 1989 we purchased from Robertson’s in Choteau, a big, stout, roping stallion with an incredible disposition, Texas Tee Cowboy. The entire line up of stallions over the years can be seen below. A notable purchase in 2003 was The Hollywood Buster, an NCHA money earner of over $72,000 at that time. His influence is strongly felt in our broodmares. Kit Cat Silk 199, a Kit Dual son, was purchased in 2004 and used until his death just 2 years ago. Our current stallion is PC Cajunized, bred by the Cowan T4 program, and was purchased as an aged stallion. His 3rd foal crop here will be born in spring 2025. He is bringing speed and elegance to our heavily cow bred mares. Two young stallions are waiting in the wings to be proven, Smart Risto and Jae Bar Churchill.
