Registered Angus Cattle

In 1987 we started our registered Angus herd with purchases from two Montana dispersion sales. Subsequently, we began buying high quality cows from top Montana breeders and also began a donor program. Our first Angus bull sale was held in 1995 and we had annual public production sales through 2008. At that point in time we wanted to simplify our ranch operation. We shifted the focus to our commercial cow herd, dropping our calving back to May on green grass. We still maintain a small herd of maternally focused, registered cows for the production of home-raised bulls and replacement heifers. We do collect some of these bulls and semen is available on some of the listed sires. Calving in May is less stressful on humans and calves alike. The baby calves can sleep in the warm sun and grow up healthier. It also gives us different marketing options. Over the winter we develop their frame, keep them healthy and ready them for summer grass. Calves are usually sold in late spring with the option to run them as yearlings if we have adequate grass.
